Leaving one’s homeland to study in a specialist field like design or art is by no means an easy challenge. Toyo Institute of Art & Design has prepared the best environment and support in order to provide backing to all international students who are encountering this challenge. Toyo Institute of Art & Design, which in 2016 will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its establishment, has to date sent out great numbers of creators into society, and these creators are flourishing both in Japan and in their homelands. At present, international students from around 13 countries are enrolled here, including many government-sponsored international students mainly from Asian and European countries. We hope that you will give your best at Toyo as you work towards realizing your dream.

Matriculation requirements

Requirements for matriculation are that the requirements outlined below under A) as well as satisfying one of the requirements ① through ③ under B).

Conditions”A”Persons with an academic background of at least graduation from senior high school, who have graduated after at least 12 years from a higher educational institution established in School Education Law.
Conditions”B”
  1. Persons who have passed at “N1” or “N2” in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
  2. Persons who have achieved a score of 200 points or higher (total across listening comprehension and reading comprehension) in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students.

  • Persons who have graduated from a technical school or junior college in the same field (art/design) as Toyo Institute of Art & Design. Or: persons who have completed at least two years at a university in the same field (art/design) as Toyo Institute of Art & Design.
  • Only persons who have passed at “N1” or “N2” , or who have achieved a score of 200 points or higher (total across listening comprehension and reading comprehension) in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students.

  • Acceptance of applications will commence from September 1st, 2021
    (It will be closed as soon as it becomes capacity.)
  • Application(Sep〜)
    Submission of application forms: Please collect the necessary documents and bring them to Toyo Institute of Art & Design, or submit via registered mail. Notification of the scheduled examination date will be given after your application has been received.
  • Document screening
    Interview examination
    In the case of transfer admission, there is an examination of works.
  • Notification of result (by mail)
  • Matriculation procedure
    Pledge guarantee / Letter of payment
    Send photographic portrait
    Payment of school fees
